Your telephone service is provided using Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) technology. VoIP services function differently than traditional landline telephone services, especially during power outages or internet disruptions. Because of these differences, it is important that all customers understand the limitations of 911 emergency calling services.
When you dial 911 from your VoIP phone, your call is routed to the appropriate emergency response center (Public Safety Answering Point or “PSAP”) based on the Registered Service Address associated with your account.
To help emergency responders locate you quickly, you must ensure your Registered Service Address is accurate and up to date at all times.
You are responsible for providing and maintaining the correct physical address where your VoIP service is being used.
If you move your phone equipment or use the service at another location, you must notify us immediately and update your Registered Service Address before using the service from the new location.
Failure to update your address may result in emergency services being dispatched to the wrong location.
After installation, relocation, internet changes, or equipment replacement, customers should verify that service is functioning properly.
Do not place unnecessary 911 test calls. If you need to test emergency calling functionality, contact our office first for proper procedures.
